24 maart 2023

Tomás Pinto Abreu will make his first Iberian Supercars Endurance full season in 2023. The Portuguese youngster will drive a Tockwith Motorsports Ginetta G50.

The 23-year-old driver made his debut last year in the Iberian racing series at the Estoril circuit, driving for the British outfit Tockwith Motorsports. After getting on the podium in his debut race, Tomás Pinto Abreu will do full the Supercars Endurance season and three rounds of the Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade in the GTC category, GTX division. His teammate will be revealed soon.

The Cascais native hopes this year to show competitiveness and be involved in the battle for the category top positions, counting for that with the support and experience of Tockwith Motorsports, which is still evaluating drivers for a second Ginetta G50 and a Ginetta G55 GT4.

Tomás Pinto Abreu said: “I started my career in classic cars with a Datsun, but the aim was always to try different cars. GT cars are very appealing, and I have liked them since I was a child. It was a dream to compete one day at the wheel of one of these machines. When I tried it, it got under my skin, and I wanted to take part in the Supercars Endurance. I am aware that it will be a demanding season, and in the first two races, I think I will still be in an adaptation phase. But I am very competitive and, afterwards, I want to show more speed and consistency and to be part of the battle for the victories in my category”.

Para Diogo Ferrão, CEO of Race Ready, added: “Tomás tried out the championship last year at Estoril, and it was clear that he really enjoyed the experience. He’s a young driver, but with experience of classic car racing, which proves that our championships are a good option, both for drivers who are at the beginning of their career, and for those who have been competing in classic cars. It’s fantastic to be able to welcome Tomás full-time and I’m sure that he will show a very interesting competitive level”.

Autódromo Internacional do Algarve opens this year’s Iberian Supercars Endurance season  on May 5-7.
