The Squadra Corse Angelo Caffi closes fourth the first week and Dakar Classic 2022

Brescia, January 7th 2022 – The sixth stage of the Dakar Classic could not have ended any better for the Squadra Corse Angelo Caffi. Luciano Carcheri and Giulia Maroni, in the Costa Ligure-branded Nissan Terrano 1, drove a sensational stage, climbing three more places to take fourth place in the Group H3.

The crew’s progress today demonstrated just how unpredictable a race as the Dakar Classic can be. Luciano Carcheri and Giulia Maroni were slowed down in the first few stages due to an inaccuracy of the on-board instruments, but yesterday they understood how to improve their approach to the regularity controls, and in just two stages they recovered from ninth to fourth place.

However, the race was affected by the words of the French Foreign Minister, who today spoke about the explosions that took place in Jeddah in recent days. According to the Minister the event could be at risk, although so far no official communication has been received and so preparations are underway to resume the action on Sunday after the rest day.

“We are very happy with today’s stage. The stage was very nice, the two regularity sectors were certainly more challenging, while the navigation sector took place on an almost completely flat plateau where in fact all the drivers in the top positions scored a zero. We drove very well and to be in fourth place with this car is very satisfying considering that our Nissan Terrano 1 is a T2 production car and we are in the category with the ex-official T1 competition cars”.
“Obviously we are all a bit worried about the news that leaked out today about the possible cancellation of the race but we don’t have any confirmation and so we are staying focused on having a great second week. We have very good feelings and we aim to close with a great result”
Carcheri said.
