LUÍS CALHEIROS AND PAULO MACEDO TO RETURN WITH LEMA RACING

9 februari 2024

Luís Calheiros and Paulo Macedo are set to make a comeback to Iberian Supercars with Lema Racing’s Mercedes AMG GT4, solidifying their position as the third lineup to confirm their participation in the 2024 season.

Having debuted in the series last year, the Portuguese duo quickly showcased their prowess by clinching two GT4 Bronze division podiums at the opening event hosted at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.

Throughout the season, Luís Calheiros and Paulo Macedo continued to impress, securing three more podium finishes in their division. Their consistent speed and performance ultimately earned them third place in the GT4 Bronze final standings by the end of the year.

“We decided to return because we genuinely enjoyed the championship’s organization, the competitiveness, and the camaraderie among our rivals, alongside the GT4 cars,” said Luis Calheiros.

Continuing to drive a Mercedes AMG GT4 managed by the Slovenian team, both drivers aim to leverage their experience and momentum to elevate their performance further this season, despite anticipating stiff competition.

“We recognize the formidable level of our opponents, but with another year under our belts, we feel more prepared. Our aim is to match or even surpass our achievements from 2023,” added Paulo Macedo.

Jaka Marinšek, the Team Manager of Lema Racing, expressed his delight in welcoming back Paulo Macedo and Luís Calheiros: “I’m thrilled to have Paulo and Luís back on board; they’re exceptional individuals. I’m confident that we’re in for an incredible season ahead.”

The Slovenian team is set to field another Mercedes AMG GT4 along with an Audi R8 LMS GT4 in the series and aims to finalize its line-ups soon.

The Iberian Supercars, along with its sister series Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade and Supercars España, is scheduled to commence on May 25th and 26th at the Circuito de Jerez in Spain. The official test is slated for April 6th at the Autódromo do Estoril in Portugal.
