Henrique Chaves starts season preparation

25 maart 2019

Henrique Chaves will have his first real test session with Teo Martín Motorsport’s McLaren 720S GT3. The Paul Ricard circuit, where the International GT Open season will kick off in April, will be the stage.

In 2019 the Portuguese driver starts a new chapter in his racing career with a GT3 program, a category with global expansion in which the most prestigious supercars brands invest massively.

Henrique Chaves will race for the Spanish outfit Teo Martín Motorsport, which have been showing its strengths over the years as the 2015 International GT Open titles prove.

The Portuguese driver will debut in the competitive world of GT racing with a brand new McLaren 720S GT3, a car that made its first official race in the end of 2018 in the Gulf 12 Hours, and achieved its first win this year – last weekend in Melbourne during a Australian GT supporting race at the Formula One Australian Grand Prix.

Henrique Chaves has had his first contact with the Woking-built car also at Paul Ricard, but only on March 26th and 27th he will have a real test to prepare himself for this year’s International GT Open. “I already had the chance to do some laps with the McLaren 720S GT3 a few weeks ago, but it was a brief contact. Next week I will start my adaptation to the car and the team as everything is new to me. I’m excited to start the new season preparation”, says the 22-year-old driver.

The Portuguese youngster is decided to do a fast adaptation to the new challenge ahead. “It’s my first season with a GT car and I know that I’ll have an adaptation period. Everything will be new to me – the type of car, the McLaren 720S, the team – but I’m committed to give my best, as always. Teo Martín Motorsport is an experienced team and with good results, and it will be a very important support to me”, underlines Henrique Chaves.

The International GT Open season gets underway at Paul Ricard over the weekend of April 27th – 28th, 2019. The series comprises seven rounds, visiting the European circuits of Hockenheim, Spa-Francorchamps, Red Bull Ring, Silverstone, Barcelona and Monza.
