FIRST POSITIVE START FOR RW RACING GP WITH MOTO2 ADVENTURE

18 november 2016

The Dutch team made a first roll-out this week to start their new project in the highly competitive Moto2 category during a two-day test last Wednesday and Thursday in Jerez.

It has been a busy week for RW Racing GP as the team switches categories in Grand Prix racing, leaving Moto3 to join the intermediate class Moto2 in 2017. Straight after the 2016 championship’s finale in Valencia last weekend, the Circuito de Jerez in Andalucia was the next destination where the new season has brought a first taste what the new Moto2 line up will face next year.

RW Racing signed for this challenge Spanish rider Axel Pons who meanwhile is very experienced to the hard-fought intermediate class. The 25-year-old Barcelona born rider impressed the team with his professional attitude to approach a new project for him and got familiarised quickly to his new environment during the Jerez stay. The first shakedown for the entire team based on a 2016 build-up KALEX Moto2 went well and Axel Pons was able to set a fast and consistent pace over the two days.

Meanwhile, the team returned to the Netherlands to their base where homework preparations starts during the winter month before RW Racing GP returns to on-track action next February

#49 Axel PONS, – 1.42,698   5th    (62 Laps on day 2):

“I’m really happy to start working with my new team. From these two days, I can see already that RW Racing GP is a really professional team and they are down to business. I got a warm welcome by all team members. I’m looking forward continue working with them next year.“

Jarno JANSSEN (Team Manager):

“For the team I can say that it has been a hectic week coming from Valencia to finish the Moto3 season and heading to Jerez to start our completely new Moto2 adventure. During the first day in Jerez we encountered some small problems with the electronic of the bike.  But on Thursday everything worked out really well and we were fast during the whole day. At this point I must say that Axel impressed us and  with his riding and approach to overcome these small problems we had on Wednesday. To finish this first test where we did is also thanks to our team as they did a great job. Now we go home and prepare for next year’s season and enjoy a little of free time. We will be back on track for testing in February.“
