Henrique Chaves ready for debut in biggest European stage

15 april 2021

Next weekend Henrique Chaves will start the GT World Challenge Europe season, in the historic Autodromo Nazionale di Monza.

The Portuguese youngster was crowned in 2020 International GT Open Drivers Champion and this year he will make a step further in his career, as he will take part in the most important GT dedicated series, the GT World Challenge, that has championships at United States of America, Asia and, of course, at the Old Continent.

The European series will have ten events – five Endurance races and another five Sprint race weekends – and will start in the next weekend in the Italian track, where Henrique Chaves has a good record – a win, a second place, a pole-position and a fastest lap, all scored at the International GT Open.

After a long winter, Henrique Chaves is eager to get back to racing. “I can barely wait to put my hands on the ‘Lambo’! I love racing, to drive and to reach the car and my driving maximum. I like Monza, it’s a track that demands precision and where I’ve already got good results and it’s a great place to debut in these series. It’s a new environment with a big and strong pack, but I believe we have good chances”, said the twenty-four-year-old driver.

The Portuguese will be joined at the Barwell Motorsport’s Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo’s wheel by Miguel Ramos and Adrian Amstutz and he expects that the trio may be in the fight for the Pro-Am class top positions.

Henrique Chaves is aware of the strong opponents that he will have in a field with more than forty cars. But he is confident and in a three-hours-race the strategy will be very important, and everything can happen. “It will be a weekend with many new things, but I’m confident that we have a good car, a strong team and competitive drivers, which will allow us to fight for the class top positions. The qualifying will be important, as it will be hard to find a clear lap and in the race it will be important to keep a good pace without mistakes. I believe that we can celebrate a good result in our series debut”, underlined the Portuguese.

The official program of the Monza event of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup will kick-off Saturday, with the practice session and Pre-qualifying. Sunday, will be held the Qualifying (9h00 CET+1) and the race (15h00 CET+1
